Sneakers at Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2014

Attendees at Chanel’s spring couture show were surprised when models came skipping down the staircase at the Grand Palais while wearing gowns paired with athletic shoes. And although they may appear to be ordinary sneakers, Karl Lagerfeld commissioned the footwear from the prestigious house of Massaro.

The bespoke shoes, made from python skin and then veiled with lace, tweed, and pearls, came in shades of pale pink, white, blue, lavender and black. Each pair reportedly took approximately 30 hours to make, and will cost around €3,000.

However, don’t expect Lagerfeld to wear any of his sporty creations. “For myself, I don’t do sneakers,” the designer said after the show.ImageImage
